Turnbull Canyon Road Grade Separation Project
(City of Industry and Los Angeles County)
Map of the Project Area
The Turnbull Canyon Road Grade Separation Project will separate the roadway and the Union Pacific Railroad railroad tracks on Turnbull Canyon Road in the City of Industry/County of Los Angeles. Plans call for constructing a roadway overpass at Turnbull Canyon Road between Salt Lake Avenue on the north and Clark Avenue on the south to carry vehicles over the railroad tracks.
The Turnbull Canyon Road Grade Separation Project is in the conceptual design stage. The project cost is estimated at $86.2 million.
The project would reduce an estimated 89 minutes of delay each day at the crossing which is traversed by 25 trains per day. Turnbull Canyon Road carries 13,654 vehicles per day which is projected to increase to 15,110 vehicles by 2025. The project would eliminate delays for emergency responders and crossing collisions. Emissions would be reduced and locomotive horn noise eliminated. The Federal Railroad Administration has recorded 3 collisions at the crossing in the past 10 years, including 1 fatality.
