Project Description
ACE is building bridges to carry trains on the Union Pacific Railroad tracks and vehicles on First Street over Reservoir Street and East End Avenue, which will be excavated for roadway underpasses. Congestion will be eliminated and safety improved by eliminating these railroad crossings. The newly configured Reservoir Street and East End Avenue will include several pedestrian and motorist safety improvements, including walkways with protective railing.

Project Status

The Reservoir Street Grade Separation Project was completed and reopened to traffic in December 2006. Construction has begun on the East End Avenue Grade Separation Project. Railroad bridge construction is complete and underpass paving is underway. Completion is anticipated in Summer 2008. The combined cost of the two projects is $71.4 million.

Project Impacts
The Reservoir Street project was constructed while East End Avenue remained open to vehicular traffic. When Reservoir Street re-opened to traffic, East End Avenue was closed for construction. By combining the two grade separation projects, the overall construction schedule will be reduced by approximately one year.
