Baldwin Ave. in El Monte to close for 24 months to construct roadway-railroad separation
Baldwin Avenue will be closed to traffic and pedestrians in the vicinity of the Union Pacific Railroad crossing located between Lower Azusa Road and Valley Boulevard in El Monte for construction of the Alameda Corridor-East Construction Authority?s Baldwin Avenue grade separation project. Workers will build a bridge to carry trains over Baldwin Avenue and excavate the street for an underpass for vehicular traffic. Upon completion, traffic congestion, potential collisions with trains and noise from train horns at the crossing will be eliminated.
The road closure will be implemented with the assistance of the El Monte Police Department starting at 8 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2013. Baldwin Avenue will be closed for construction for 24 months and is anticipated to reopen in Summer 2015. Baldwin Avenue will be closed between Gidley Avenue and Rose Avenue in the City of El Monte.WHAT TO EXPECT:
Local access to businesses and residences will be maintained. All vehicle and pedestrian traffic are encouraged to use the identified detour routes: Temple City Boulevard and Arden Drive for north-south traffic. Santa Anita Ave. is a detour route to Interstate 10 and 210 freeways. To minimize impacts to a local elementary school, trucks will be encouraged to use Temple City Boulevard. Most construction work will take place on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. and will be monitored for compliance with applicable noise, dust and vibration control requirements.
